This is why they call 'em "the Smokies." There is always this blue mist over everything. Elevation about 5,000+ feet.

On the path climbing up to Laurel Falls. Yes, the sky really was this blue.

I'm no geologist…but, the Smokies are among the oldest geological formation on Earth. Laurel Falls so names for the mountain laurel that grows here.

The blue haze on all these long shots is, I think, a reflection from the "smoke" everywhere.

This is mountain laurel that has taken route in the rocks. There is also lichen, the acid of which is slowly but surely breaking down the mountains.

There is a variety of moss hanging from the trees, and air plant, but it pales by comparison to the Spanish Moss on the Live Oaks in South Carolina.
